Description Technology Requirements
Introduction to Solid Modeling & Engineering Design is a two-semester course that teaches students basic hand drawing techniques, 2D and 3D computer-aided design (CAD) and solid modeling and introduces students to fundamental concepts related to engineering design.

Target Audience: 9th – 12th grades

Pre-/Co-requisites: Algebra I

Content Knowledge:

  • Orthographic projections, isometric views and standard dimensioning practices
  • Multiple extrusion and cut-out techniques
  • Sketch-based and applied features
  • Two-dimensional projections of solid parts
  • Assemblies and exploded views
  • Basic animations
  • Engineering design process

Hard Skills:

Proficiency in SolidWorks (2D & 3D)

Soft Skills:

  • Written communication – Engineering Memos & correspondence with TAs
  • Oral communication – informal presentations, communication with TAs
  • Group work (as learning environment allows)
